In 2012, the Garfield County Federal Mineral Lease District Board of Directors established the Grantee of the Year Award as a reward for Grantees for their superior work, alignment with the District’s mission, and compliance with the District’s program rules and guidelines. Beginning in January, 2013, and every year since, the District has given the $10,000.00 award at its Annual Awards Luncheon.
To be eligible, a political subdivision must have received at least one grant in either the Traditional or Mini Grant Program in the Fall Grant Cycle of the prior year, or the Spring Grant Cycle in the current year. Example: To be eligible for the 2019 Grantee of the Year Award (awarded in January, 2020), a political subdivision must have received at least one grant in either the Traditional or Mini Grant Program in the Fall 2018 or Spring 2019 Grant Cycle.
Based on input from District staff, the Board selects a winner based on the following five factors:
- Alignment with the District’s mission and the Federal Mineral Lease District Act;
- Quality of the Project(s);
- Quality of the Application(s);
- Timeliness of Project Completion(s); and
- Compliance with program rules and guidelines.
The award is distributed on a reimbursement basis only, which is made only for a project meeting the requirements of the Colorado Federal Mineral Lease District Act (§ 30-20-1301 et seq, (2019)) and the Mineral Leasing Act of 1920 (30 U.S.C. §191).
